Yes, I admit that I too am an avid fan of Alton Brown and his Good Eats. When I opened this flat package on Christmas morning I think my husband was worried I'd think this was cheesy but I hurried to the kitchen to pimp out my fire engine red Kitchen Aid. Followed directions (i.e. the whisk stays out of the dishwasher, observe speeds limits depending on which beater is attached, etc). And wound up a year later with no problems at all.



And it looked almost perfectly new, we got the all metallic/stainless finish of the same mixer right here at Amazon. Since we wanted to run the pasta roller/cutter accessories we got this heavier duty model to keep it easy on the motor.



Worked out great, doesn't lug down the motor as much as lighter Kitchenaids probably would. Basically what we have here is a special rebuilt model that cheaper, stronger, and heavier than usual. But since it's seldom moved off its spot on the counter, weight hasn't been an issue.

I've made 3 loaves of bread at one time, mixed marshmallows for 15 minutes on high speed, and made double batches of cookies. WOW! This is a real work horse of a machine. I picked mine up on eBay a few months ago and I couldn't be happier. With 800 watts of power you don't have to worry about thawing butter or handling the thickest of doughs. It includes three attachments heads (wire whisk, dough hook and beater) and they are very sturdy. The steel mixing bowl is sturdy and cleans easily. Controls are simply and it has a great safety cutoff to prevent the machine from operating when the head is tilted back.

I bought it in white back then. The first one has been used regularly because my wife is a very good cook. We kept waiting for the old one to die, well with KitchenAid, that never happens. So after 32 years of marriage I bought her the Brushed Nickel KSM152PSNK. If you do not have a KitchenAid mixer and you like to cook, you need one. Spend the money and buy one. I know we will get at least 32 years of service from our new one.

Only a true Kitchen Aid mixer fan would buy so many of these. I started out over twenty years ago with a cream one, traded, then got the 5 qt industrial gray and gave it to my sister, then a black 5 qt which my husband gave to a friend because he felt we didn't need two, and my favorite, this one. I also gave a cobalt blue 5 qt to my brother in law although he rarely cooks and often works in Belgium and Japan; and a bright red one for another friend. I sold commercial restaurant equipment for 17 years and their products were essential to our business so I write from more than personal experience.



For my home with cherry cupboards the rich copper mixer earns a place on my counter. This is a hard working and beautiful companion in the kitchen especially if you can't afford the space or price of its larger model. I will be getting the new sweep batter paddle for it next since I already have grinders, juicers and every other attachment.



Just remember these are very heavy and should go on the counter rather than on a shelf or in the garage. Use the paddle for mixing heavy batters and the dough hook for bread. Don't get stuck using just the wire whisk for everything. I keep all the paddles in the bowl.

I got this for my birthday last year, and I use all the time- for everything from breads, pizza dough and cookies to cakes, frostings, fillings and whipped cream. It has endless possibilities! The 5-quart seems to be big enough for my use. I can't imagine having a bigger one as this one is so powerful! I never use the pouring shield though, as it seems to be more of a nuisance than a help. The nickel color looks great with stainless steel appliances. It is worth the money. I got the ice cream maker attachment which is fun too, though I do not use it very often.

Hang in there- a little practice for dough consistency goes a long way with this attachment. The noodles are thicker than the thinnest settings of a manual pasta machine, but this is so quick and easy I can decide to have pasta at the last minute! Be sure to toss noodles in corn meal to keep them separate. Fresh macaroni and cheese, chicken and fresh noodles - great uses for this sturdy pasta. I recommend semolina flour.

Ok, I got this attachment because I wanted to make homemade, preservative free, whole wheat pasta. It works!



My prior pasta making experience is limited to rolling out by hand and cutting with a pizza cutter. (Something I would do for chicken noodle soup but too time consuming for anything much larger.) Consequently, I can't campare it to other pasta making methods.



I have found that there has been a bit of a learning curve. Dough that is the right consistency (not too dry, not too sticky) goes through the machine easily and clean up is not too hard either. (The machine can be cleaned and put away before the pasta is done cooking.)



Is it the best way to make pasta? I don't know. But my experience has not been as bleak as some of the poor reviews on this site. If you are willing to take a little time to learn a new trick, it might just work for you.

I purchased this pasta maker as an acessory to my Cuisinart stand mixer. The mixer performs flawlessly, but sad to say the pasta maker does not. I have tried various recipes of egg pasta dough but anything then the lasagna noodles it is way to difficult to keep the pasta separate. Also extruded pasta in much denser then rolled pasta. This creates a much more chewy and dense pasta since the past is forced under pressure throught the plates. I will go back to the traditional Atlas pasta roller for much more easier and light pasta. I'm just sitting down to a bowl of linguine made with the cracked pepper recipe - tossed it with olive oil, garlic, and clams - and I am very, very happy. I only made a half recipe (which, by the way, works fine) and it really took no time at all. I find it much easier to use than the pasta maker attachment for my Cuisinart food processor. Does the pasta look like I bought it at the store? No. Do I care? No. I can't wait to try out all the other disks.
