Man, I LOVE my Kitchenaid stand mixer! I've had mine for over five years, and it's never let me down! I've made countless cheesecakes from scratch with it (always to rave reviews - I'm told they're far better than what you can get in any restaurant), I've made pasta with it, tons of cookies, and quarts and quarts of ice cream with it (using the ice cream maker attachment, which also ABSOLUTELY rocks)! Of all of the things that I have in my kitchen, this is one of my top two culinary items. It's durable, attractive, and can handle just about anything that you can throw at it (or in it, for that matter)!



Long story short, if you don't have a stand mixer yet, and are thinking about picking one up, don't hesitate any longer. No, Kitchenaid stand mixers are not exactly inexpensive, but I fully expect this one to run beautifully for my full lifetime. I'll be truly surprised if this isn't something that I can pass on to my children - if I don't decide to have it buried with me! ; ) This item may be an investment for you, but it'll be worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY that you spend on it! I bought one of these at Kmart a little while back . All I could think of is why would a stand mixer spatula need to be heat resistant to 500 degrees. With that whirling around my head I bought it. I find that I'm using it more for my everyday cooking than for my mixer. It isn't flat ,its got a tilt to it that makes lets say browning chicken and flipping it over so much easier no lost pieces overboard. I'm buying another for the mixer and keeping the one I have for cooking , why? because a gadget junkie can never have enough gadgets.

I own a KitchenAid 6 quart Professional mixer with 525 watts of power and purchased this grain mill so we could grind our own wheat for bread.



It was a complete disaster. Not only does it completely stress out the mixer but it does not grind nearly fine enough for flour. Following other advise to run the grain through 2 times, we filled the hopper with the berries and before it finished (on medium grind) the mixer was so hot we had to stop the machine for about 45 minutes. Trying to run the medium grind to a finer grind totally cooked my beloved mixer and broke the bearing before the grinding was complete. (We did have the metal gear box but that didn't stop the damage that this mill did).



I agree with most of the reviews here purchase a real grain mill and save your mixer!

I bought this to start using whole wheat flour. It does a good job grinding the wheat. Make sure you use it on speed 10 or it will ruin your mixer. You need to let it cool after you grind wheat with this grinder. I usually grind about 5 cups at a time and have not had any trouble with it overheating. If you are going to grind a lot of wheat at a time, I would spend the money to get a nutrimill grain mill.

We have had this grinder for about 3 years now and we love it. I usually mix 4 cups of wheat and 1 cup of soy beans together to grind into flour for bread making and have had no problems.

I've heard many stories of people having their motors burn out from the usage of this attachment. If you keep in mind a few things, you shouldn't have any problems. First off, you should only grind no more than 5 cups at one time, otherwise you risk burning out your motor. Also, I only put my setting on '2'. It may take a bit longer to grind, but I still have a mixer to use afterwards. You can also grind your grain twice. First time on a coarser setting then run it through again to a finer grind. I've never had to do this as using the #2 setting on my mixer and only grinding 5 cups max has given me no problems.

FWIW, I have The Professional 5 mixer with a 350 Watt motor.

I've only been using this mixer for 10 months (but didn't open immediately after purchase so my warranty is over) and it has broken. It will not turn on (I have no electrical problems in my home, it's not the outlet, I've tried many). I've called KithenAid customer service and their only resolution is to take it to a local repair shop since I purchased 13 months ago (the repair shops have quoted me costs, just to look at it, not to fix it, that equal 1/2 of what I paid in the first place). After checking out a few other websites, I found that KitchenAid stand mixers have been performing very poorly over the last few years. I thought I would have this mixer for at least 20 years (since I only bake for special occasions and have used the mixer less than 15 times in less than one year of use). Beware of the limited one-year warranty, these mixers are not as reliable as the brand would have you believe.

We are a LARGE family and I use my mixer almost daily. After 13 yrs, I needed to replace my dough hook as sections of the enamel began to bubble and flake off. This was caused by water finding its way in under the coating. The same thing is now happening to my flat paddle attatchment which will need to be replaced as well. Certainly hard to complain after so many years of use not to mention the fact that the parts are readily available. Still, why not just make it stainless to begin with and avoid this problem altogether? Kitchen Aid is a great product which I would highly recommend.
