I finally broke down and upgraded to this from a heavy duty 325w. I make alot of breads and pizza. One reason I decided on this opposed to the cuisanart was the fact they tout it as being made in the USA. I'm very skeptical of this claim. First off right out of the box, it felt lighter than my old one. Box said "Assembled in USA" What does that mean? Probably made in China or India, and parts are put in the box in the USA. I've been using it, and it does an ok job. No better then my old one though. Alot of funny noises and funky smells going on when kneading dough with only 4-5 cups flour. also the attachments are pure crap, light weight and all the shine came off the flat beater in the dishwasher. I only handwashed the bowl. This is my 3rd kitchenaid mixer, and the fact the attachments aren't dishwasher safe is retarded. Some positives are the rubber feet that do stay still, and the slow start feature. A timer would have been nice (on the Cuisanart) If I bought this locally, I probably would have bought it back, but I could only find the 5 qt. And I will be hanging onto my old one.

After purchasing my KitchenAid this past year, I can't imagine being without it! Whether I am making bread or pasta dough, preparing meatballs, or whipping mashed potatoes, this mixer does it all.
I debated between the 6-quart or a smaller size before ordering and I am happy to have invested a bit more for the larger bowl. If you're planning on running double or triple batches of your favorite baked good, the larger machine has no problem handling a large amount of dough. I can easily make 55+ cookies after only one mixing session.
The KitchenAid also provides a number of convenient speed options that give the chef more control. I tend to only use the highest options (9 or 10) when whipping frosting for lady locks, Italian knots, or brownies, but it certainly gets the job done! Otherwise, the lower options are great for slowly mixing heavy amounts of dough or meat.
All in all, this mixer has been a huge asset for my kitchen. Not only does it run great, but it looks beautiful! I highly recommend purchasing a KitchenAid Professional 600 Series.

Do NOT buy this mixer. Ours broke after only one year of use. Oil began to leak around the attachment hub and it began to make a grinding noise. While we were using ours primarily for kneading, we never exceeded the 14 cup limit on page 54 of the manual. Suffice to say, this is a product with built-in obsolescence.

I must say that I'm surprised that this mixer has held in since Jan. 09 . I love the new dough hook.I think it has relieved some of the pressure when handling larger amounts of dough. Let me back up to the first sentence. The first KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6 qt. Stand Mixer had problems. Mainly the mixer could not handle the same amount of dough in ratio that the 5 qt. mixer could do . Within that year I had 5 mixers with the last one was at the end of my 1 year. warranty. I was burning them up with the dough hook. Surprisingly this one held in. KitchenAid told me to adjust my recipe. This recipe won me the Texas State Fair in 89' in white bread. The killer was KitchenAid only want us to use the dough hook for only 5 minutes. On the 5 qt.mixer I could knead for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. KitchenAid honored the warranty for that year. I was thankful. All I had to do was to call and they would sent me another one and pick up the broke one. The newest one (no. 6) has really held in there for me.. The only thing I see wrong is that it smells like it burning up when I'm using the dough hook, and I'm not to fond of the new splash shell. BUT I LOVE MY KitchenAid.

I love my Kitchen mixer but wouldn't want to spend this much money on a new mixers every other year. This mixer runs greats when it works; however, it doesn't last for long. Check on those reviews with lower ratings, and you'll see how many units of this model have failed.
My KitchenAid Professional 600 stand mixer started malfunctioning about a month ago. It was only about 18 months old, and would go with full speed no matter what speed I have dialed in then shut off by itself after maybe about 10 seconds of running. I ran some intense online search and found many other KitchedAid owners have run into a similar issue. Here is a summary of the options with solutions, comments, and what I ended up with for this particular problem:
1. Some say go buy an other-than-KitchenAid mixer since those newer KitchenAid products are no longer built by the same manufactory (Hobart).
2. Some paid for service and cost ranging from one-fifty to two-hundred on top of the near fourty S&H if out of manufacturing warrantee (1 year from the date of purchase).
3. Some paid for parts and fixed theirs with information posted here: [...]
4. I ended up getting a replacement from Williams-Sonoma with an updated model - a Williams-Sonoma's exclusive 610. Yes, they back up their 100% satisfaction warrantee and replaced my faulty unit 18 months after the date of my purchase.
KitchenAid stand mixer is not as tough anymore. Too many of these failed after 1 year of use. I would only buy this mixer from Williams-Sonoma with the `100% satisfaction' guarantee since it is expensive and service is costly. This will save me not just money but hassle.
