 "Best I've had..." 2009-07-06
By stefanie
I got this mixer earlier in the year and thought it was going to be great! I had had a Sunbeam Heritage and it just didn't live up to my expectations! I got this one, in black and I love it! It's beyond great!! It leaves virtually nothing un-mixed and is VERY powerful! I make ALOT of mashed potato's and cakes in mine and it is holding up great! If I ever have to replace it, I will buy the same brand and kind!

"Nice Addition To My Kitchen" 2009-04-21
By DMA (Dallas, TX United States)
When my West Bend 41135 12-Speed Stand Mixer with 2 Mixing Bowls, White (I had the black model) died on me, I decided to get something a little more substantial. I'm not exactly a chef, but I do occasionally cook a big meal, like at Thanksgiving or birthdays, and I do have periodic need for a good mixer. After reading reviews and comparing prices, I pretty much decided against the rather pricey KitchenAids; since this Hamilton Beach got a good rating on the Consumer Reports list, I read some of the feedback here on Amazon, and it was generally good. Well, I got it at a really good price, and for the most part, I am very happy with it.

As some others have mentioned, it doesn't quite get the contents of the bottom of the bowl mixed, but that's not a big deal to me. I have had it "walk" on me one time when I was mixing really thick cookie dough (I think I poured in too many chocolate chips at once), but other than that, it's been a smooth and powerful performer. My Jello desserts made with cream cheese and whipped evap milk are twice as thick and fluffy as with my last mixer! :)

 "I'm in love" 2009-04-04
By J. Osborn (Texas)
This is a very, very good buy for the price and is what I needed and wanted. It doesn't have the attachments like Kitchenaid does, but I didn't need any attachments. I wanted and needed a good mixer.

I ordered this mixer based on reviews from a Consumer Reports type web site, where it was stated that this mixer is a best buy based on bang for the buck. I've used it for just about everything already and find it to be just what was stated. Cookie dough is a dream with this. I can do it all with the mixer (no folding in chocolate chips by hand) and it doesn't even labor on the thickest doughs. Mixing cakes is a snap.

The only drawback so far is the dough hook. I was a little disappointed with the performance of the mixer when making bread. The one piece dough hook just doesn't work as well as the (2) spiral shaped dough hooks on my old mixer. This was a big disappointment for me because I really wanted to be able to use the new mixer for bread dough too. I did try using the single hook and increasing the speed. It worked, but I had to stand there and hold the mixer in place as it "walked" due to the violence of the dough hitting the side of the bowl.

 "Hot Potato" 2009-01-13
By Gloria L. Landahl (Boston, MA)
There are several qualities that stand out on this item: attractiveness, the lightweightedness, ease of putting on attachments, lack of "walking", power and versatility of the machine to name a few. However, I find that flour does not get mixed in well in the provided mixing bowl - it tends to adhere along the sides and bottom of the bowl, even with scraping with a spatula. Which brings up another, big, problem: scraping of the bowl with a spatula can only be accomplished by NOT using the included Pouring Shield - there simply is no room with the beater and pouring shield to maneuver a spatular in the bowl!! I have found that not using the pouring shield is not a real problem - I'm just careful in adding dry (and other) ingredients. Also, I find moving the "bar" for setting the speed control to be difficult: I usually overshoot and have to back-track, even using both hands to try to move the bar; the settings themselves are excellent, though (once you get them...). This review sounds pretty negative, but overall I'm really very pleased with the mixer - it does a great job in producing really good baked goods!! I'm still working on overcoming some of its less than perfect qualities...

I bought a mixer to make cookies. Sick Cookies, that is. Anyway, using a mixer once a year didn't warrant my $200, so I spent $65 at target on a sunbeam with a 350-watt moter and 4 quart bowl. Made 9 batches of cookies tonight and it worked great!

Easy to clean and work with.

 "Mixed Comments!" 2009-07-23
By Camp Verde Library (Camp Verde AZ)
I bought this mixer on line to replace a 33 year old mixer that I lost in a fire. While it does do a great job mixing really heavy cookie dough, it is heavy, hard to operate, clumsy to fasten on stand, and worst of all, the eject button will not release both beaters without a struggle. My husband has a machine shop and with the aid of a plastic tap hammer was able to get the beaters out. It is a 'work horse' if that's what you need but I cannot recommend it for simplicity to use

 "Beaters won't release" 2009-05-23
By inoregon (Oregon)
This mixer worked very well at all speeds when I purchased it two years ago but the beaters were difficult to remove. Then after more use they finally released easily. This week they wouldn't release and had to be muscled out with wrenches. The next time I used it they wouldn't wiggle out at all and the mixer is going to the town dump ASAP. I'll never buy another West Bend.

 "Fit for Purpose" 2009-07-01
By Burr Swisher (Chicago)
I think it is important to understand what you are buying here when you consider this purchase. I've used this mixer about a dozen times now since December 2008 and have always been pleased with the mixing results. I mix things like cookie doughs and puddings. These seem like typical uses. The speed adjustment is not clincally accurate but, it does increase in speed as the nob is turned. The outer part is plastic chrome but it cleans up fine. The bowl's method of attachment to the turner leaves something to be desired but it works. So, in short, if you're looking for a device to mix most things with, I think this will suit you well.

 "Excellent Mixer" 2009-06-21
By drsmommy (Oklahoma)
I bought this mixer in lieu of a Kitchen Aid, mainly due to its flexibility. This mixer easily snaps together for use and easily breaks down for storage in a deep kitchen drawer. It is also lightweight, making it quite portable, but built so that it doesn't move all over the counter when in use. As far as use goes, it whips cream into butter without any effort or supervision on my part in about 15 minutes. I love that the bowls lock onto the base and cannot be easily shifted when adding ingredients to a batter. Overall, I have been pleasantly surprised with this purchase. I did not anticipate that I would like it better than my old Kitchen Aid.

 "Great for light duty" 2009-02-22
By M. R. Henderson (Indianapolis, IN USA)
We purchased this model to see if we would use it enough to justify getting a more expensive model. The unit performs well and we do not intend to replace it with a more heavy duty model since we do not use it that often. The motor seems to have enough power that it never bogged down or slowed down when we used it. I would definitely recommend this for people who don't know if they need the higher priced models and just want to use a mixer every once in a while.

 "Satisfied thus far..but.." 2009-04-17
By Lady zenomi (Trinidad and Tobago)
I purchased this machine cause at the time I could not afford a Kitchen Aid. This machine is ideal for mixing frosting made with vegetable shortening as this can become stiff and put strain on your regular mixer motor (I can testify I lost two hand mixers). The other attachments has proven to be useful as well, I used the dough hook to make fondant and was satisfied with the results. I appreciate the fact the mixer is quiet and I mean quiet it does not disturb anyone while I work, clean up is easy as well. The thing that dissapointed me with this product is that it does not have any further attachments,eg. pasta machine etc. But overall I would recommend this product.

 "HB Eclectric Mixer Review" 2008-12-22
By Kathy A. King (Minong, WI.)
I'm pretty new to the mixer but I like it so far. It is quiet, it seems to be quite sturdy, and it looks good sitting on the counter. I wish the head release was more accessible. The release 'button' is located in the back and it is flush with adjoining surfaces. I also wish the head would swivel to the side thereby providing better or more 'open' access to the mixing bowl. Otherwise it's great and I would recommend it to anyone.

"Hamilton Beach 63220 Eclectrics All-Metal 12-Speed Stand Mixer, Sterling Chrome" 2008-11-08
By LEE (Le Château, USA)

The Hamilton Beach (HB) mixer was our preferred choice out of dozens, bar none. With its die-cast metal parts and powerful 400-watt motor there were none in its price range that came close to this.

We were also considering the HB Commercial unit, which has nearly twice the power; however, the cost was more than double this one. The mixing bowl is quite large, motor is quieter than most, and several unlikely accessories are provided (i.e. splash guard, etc). Needless to say, we are v.happy with this purchase.

"Classic Standing Mixer Delivers the Goods...the Commitment Is Up to You" 2009-08-10
By Ed Uyeshima (San Francisco, CA USA)
If you want to impress your "foodie" friends, all you need to do is have this out on display on your kitchen island. No one will question your aspiration to be a good cook, and then at some point, you have to prove you can use it with fluency and frequency. The KitchenAid KSM150 Artisan Series Stand Mixer is a striking piece of equipment, especially the glossy enamel finish of the empire red model, which is the one I ordered. There are ten speeds with a slide lever on the mixer head. It comes with a five-quart stainless-steel mixing bowl and three mixing attachments - a flat beater, a wire whip, and a dough hook. I've had an opportunity to work with all three on more than one occasion and am more than satisfied with the results.

If there is a standout among the three, it is the dough hook. At the lowest speed, it spirals so thoroughly around the bowl that scraping the sides becomes an almost optional task. The most thrilling aspect is that despite the careful instructions that usually come with bread-making recipes, you can literally put all the ingredients in the bowl, turn the mixer on, and let it work into a cohesive dough with minimal supervision. The wire whip works wonders with egg whites or heavy cream, producing stiff peaks in record time. My one reservation in this regard is using a 325-watt motor for such small tasks and then facing the clean-up afterward. That's probably why I generally reserve usage of this mixer for such tasks to dinner parties or potlucks.

I originally had concerns that the flat beater would be almost too powerful to produce fluffy mashed potatoes, but in using alternating speeds, I was able to produce the desirable results without turning the potatoes into wallpaper paste. One big benefit is the deep well of the bowl, which minimizes the incidence of splattering. The clear plastic pouring shield is another big plus. The easy twist locks keep the mixer stationary throughout your preparation, and the same principles are at work with the attachments. It is a relief that there are no buttons to press, and the attachments stay put until you're ready to dislodge them. Keep in mind that it is a relatively heavy appliance at 23 pounds with the mixer head a bit daunting if you are in a hurry to move ingredients in and out of the bowl. Still, this is classic kitchenware well worth the price if you are ready to show your culinary skills.

 "Versatile and Indisposable Machine!" 2009-08-07
By Kat (San Francisco, CA)
The KitchenAid Standing Mixer is one of those kitchen products that I just can't imagine life without. My husband and I received one as a wedding gift in 2006, and while I can't say I use it everyday, I can say that when I use it, I use it a lot!

I've used the KitchenAid to mix dozens of cookies, cakes, muffins, and breads. When making pasta, I'm able to mix the dough in the KitchenAid, then roll and cut the pasta with the pasta attachment quickly. During holidays, the KitchenAid seriously saves the family hours of work and backache. We have several of the attachments, so we're able to slice, dice, mix, cut, and whip treats up quickly and efficiently!

This machine is also very durable. My mom bought her KitchenAid in the 60's. Not only is it working as well as mine does, but it also looks brand new - this machine doesn't age!!! My parents also use their machine fairly frequently. It has never needed servicing.

Highly recommended!!
