I got this mixer earlier in the year and thought it was going to be great! I had had a Sunbeam Heritage and it just didn't live up to my expectations! I got this one, in black and I love it! It's beyond great!! It leaves virtually nothing un-mixed and is VERY powerful! I make ALOT of mashed potato's and cakes in mine and it is holding up great! If I ever have to replace it, I will buy the same brand and kind!

When my West Bend 41135 12-Speed Stand Mixer with 2 Mixing Bowls, White (I had the black model) died on me, I decided to get something a little more substantial. I'm not exactly a chef, but I do occasionally cook a big meal, like at Thanksgiving or birthdays, and I do have periodic need for a good mixer. After reading reviews and comparing prices, I pretty much decided against the rather pricey KitchenAids; since this Hamilton Beach got a good rating on the Consumer Reports list, I read some of the feedback here on Amazon, and it was generally good. Well, I got it at a really good price, and for the most part, I am very happy with it.
As some others have mentioned, it doesn't quite get the contents of the bottom of the bowl mixed, but that's not a big deal to me. I have had it "walk" on me one time when I was mixing really thick cookie dough (I think I poured in too many chocolate chips at once), but other than that, it's been a smooth and powerful performer. My Jello desserts made with cream cheese and whipped evap milk are twice as thick and fluffy as with my last mixer! :)

This is a very, very good buy for the price and is what I needed and wanted. It doesn't have the attachments like Kitchenaid does, but I didn't need any attachments. I wanted and needed a good mixer.
I ordered this mixer based on reviews from a Consumer Reports type web site, where it was stated that this mixer is a best buy based on bang for the buck. I've used it for just about everything already and find it to be just what was stated. Cookie dough is a dream with this. I can do it all with the mixer (no folding in chocolate chips by hand) and it doesn't even labor on the thickest doughs. Mixing cakes is a snap.
The only drawback so far is the dough hook. I was a little disappointed with the performance of the mixer when making bread. The one piece dough hook just doesn't work as well as the (2) spiral shaped dough hooks on my old mixer. This was a big disappointment for me because I really wanted to be able to use the new mixer for bread dough too. I did try using the single hook and increasing the speed. It worked, but I had to stand there and hold the mixer in place as it "walked" due to the violence of the dough hitting the side of the bowl.

This Stand Mixer is great. It is powerful, quiet, easy to use and perfect for my kitchen!

There are several qualities that stand out on this item: attractiveness, the lightweightedness, ease of putting on attachments, lack of "walking", power and versatility of the machine to name a few. However, I find that flour does not get mixed in well in the provided mixing bowl - it tends to adhere along the sides and bottom of the bowl, even with scraping with a spatula. Which brings up another, big, problem: scraping of the bowl with a spatula can only be accomplished by NOT using the included Pouring Shield - there simply is no room with the beater and pouring shield to maneuver a spatular in the bowl!! I have found that not using the pouring shield is not a real problem - I'm just careful in adding dry (and other) ingredients. Also, I find moving the "bar" for setting the speed control to be difficult: I usually overshoot and have to back-track, even using both hands to try to move the bar; the settings themselves are excellent, though (once you get them...). This review sounds pretty negative, but overall I'm really very pleased with the mixer - it does a great job in producing really good baked goods!! I'm still working on overcoming some of its less than perfect qualities...
