 "Powerfully Easy" 2009-08-12
By Gary L. Dillon
My mixer arrived very quickly and I put to work. I have made zucchini bread, 2 batches of cookies, coffee cake, whipped cream and recently with my food processor, tomato juice. Now I just need more of the special attatchments such as the juicer and the meat grinder. I wish I could have gotten a black one but wasn't going to pay more for a cosmetic need. Wonderful mixer. I hope to get many years out of it and can pass it along in the family.

 "So far so good!" 2009-08-05
By Wilanne
I have only owned my mixer for approximately 2 months, but so far it has proven to be awesome! I love the timer and the slow start. You do have to stop and scrape the sides kind of frequently, but the timer picks right up where you left off. I also received the free food processor within a month of sending off for it. I would definitely buy this mixer again.

 "Out-standing mixer" 2009-07-04
By Neelie O'Keefe
The first one I ordered was shipped sideways and some of the machine oil had leaked from the middle attachment port on top. Amazon was terrific to work with and exchanged it without the slightest hassle. The timer is a little touchy and once didn't work at all. The recipe book has several typos and I've had mixed results with the bread and cake recipes. It would be helpful if Cuisinart included a guide to translating standard recipes into Cuisinart-friendly instructions, such as which mixing tool to use for what standard instructions and how to more exactly translate standard mixing speeds and times into the 12 numerical speeds of the mixer.

"Delighted with product, unhappy with Amazon :-(" 2009-07-01
By G. McDowell (Orange County, CA)
This is my first Cuisinart stand mixer having happily used KitchenAids all my life. After reading the other reviews of Cuisinart (and being extremely satisfied for decades with their food processors) I confidently ordered this from Amazon. I have been extremely satisfied with the quality and performance of this machine and I would rate it higher than the comparable KitchenAid plus the bowl is 5-1/2 quarts compared to the 5 quart KitchenAid. The top part lifts up very efficiently. The motor is rated much higher as well which would seem to give better torque although KitchenAid claims its smaller wattage is equal in power. It has lots of handy features including a folding button so the flour doesn't go flying all over. It also has an easy electronic timer so you can set the speed and the time and it will automatically shut itself off. The bowl cover however is more trouble than it is worth. The top of the machine cover has inserts for additional attachments but I don't have any yet. The bowl is very well designed and is easy to lock into the base but at $80 I am going to pass on a second one for the kitchen at least for now. There is a cook book pamphlet included which seems competent and a rather basic DVD. The Cuisinart has a longer warranty which is an additional assurance of quality. If you are considering a new stand mixer purchase (and you don't already have a bunch of expensive KitchenAid attachments) then I can fully recommend the Cusinart. It looks great, too - if only it came in Martha Stewart Blue.

Now shockingly after 10 years of completely happy experiences with Amazon - always expedient and efficient and they never leave you in the dark and my iMac has widgets which can track the UPS and FedEx packages in real time which is so handy - I was very unhappy :-( when I looked back on the product page and saw the mixer for $40 less from Amazon than I had paid for it and there was a free attachment offered as well. The price went down on the day that mine shipped (and my card was charged) and the free attachment was offered. Astonishingly Amazon does not have a price guarantee. I could have purchased this item at Macy's which is just down the street but for the same price I didn't have to lug it home. HOWEVER, Macy's would have guaranteed their advertised price reductions for 30 days - Amazon does not! After a couple back and forths with Amazon's Customer Service they politely informed me that their policy is to not guarantee the lowest price or price reductions. This was shocking to me. I could have returned mine and repurchased a new one with the lower price and the free ($110 attachment) but that would have been a lot of trouble. I am composing a letter to Amazon in which I state MY purchasing policy which supercedes their selling policy. Because of the convenience and trustworthiness of ordering through Amazon I frequently make purchases from them so I can have everything delivered to my door and usually at a lower price. This is my very first and only bad experience with Amazon (I am still satisfied with the mixer!) in all these years and I think in these times they need to change their policies to protect their loyal customers. My feelings got stepped on.

"Conclusions from My Research Comparing Kitchenaid 600 to the Cuisinart Mixers" 2009-06-13
By William Faulkner's Friend
I was in the market for a new heavy-duty mixer. I spent a good deal of time reading reviews and articles on the different mixer brands and models. It came down to the Kitchenaid Pro 600 (NOT one of the smaller Kitchenaids) versus one of the new Cuisinart 5qt or 7qt mixers. I inspected both models at the store. I was really torn between the two but finally decided to buy the Kitchenaid 600 mixer over the Cuisinart. In case anyone is interested, I thought I'd share my reasoning in the following bullet points.

1) First, if you look at these items on Amazon, both the KA and Cuisinart mixers share 4.5 star ratings. Almost all of those who owned one of these mixers without owning the other one seemed to have great things to say about the mixer they bought. So, I took this to mean that I really couldn't go wrong either way. However, I did know that I wanted either the 6qt KA or probably the 7qt Cuisinart because I like to make bread and also because I like heavy duty stuff!

2) Next, I was impressed by the longer 3yr/5yr warranty offered by Cuisinart. However, I think just about every review by someone who had problems with the Cuisinart REALLY complained about their customer service, shipping costs, and hassle of dealing with Cuisinart when something goes wrong. I think most of the KA owners were fairly happy with KA customer service, even if only a 1 year warranty. Either way, most of the people having problems with EITHER of these mixtures seemed to be those who wanted to knead a LARGE amount of dough, and I can't help but thinking they are trying to do too much with the equipment they bought -- they should buy a $1500 Hobart.

3) Kitchenaid's past problems with plastic gears caused me a little concern, but I read enough to know that this was a major issue for them a couple of years back, and that they had taken great pains to correct the problem -- so I discounted this worry.

4) Next, I checked out the Cuisinart 5qt at the store. The good things about it are the lower profile and the tilting mixer head -- giving you more clearance and maybe easier access to the bowl. However, there are a LOT of parts, electronics, springs, levers, etc. on this mixer!! In other words, a LOT to go wrong or break in my opinion. Plus, the digital controls seemed kind of flimsy plastic. Who knows, maybe I'm completely wrong here, but I couldn't help but doubt that the average Cuisinart is not going to make it many years without some issues. Since its only been out a year or so, it doesn't have a track record yet either. This factor swayed me toward the simplicity of the KA 600.

5) Further, as we looked at the Cuisinart model at the store we noticed oil leaking out of the mixer head onto the splash guard. What made this particulary disconcerting was that I had read at least two reviews on Amazon (or another website) where people mentioned having this exact same problem with their new Cuisinart -- they had to ship their mixer back East to get this taken care of. This just seemed like more than a coincidence to me, and was especially concerning since I doubt the unit at the store had ever been plugged in. Another point for the KA 600.

6) But Cuisinart's great review in the last Cook's Illustrated still almost swayed me to buy the Cuisinart. However, I went to the trouble of getting a subscription to CI to read the review. My impression from the review was that the main reason the Cuisinart was rated tops was due to all its features. However, I already explained my concern about all the stuff on the Cusinart. Moreover, the KA 600 is now ranked second only behind the Cuisinart, AND had been ranked no. 1 in the previous year review before the new Cuisinart came out. So, I decided to forget the review. NOTE: The Kitchenaid 5 quart mixers are not rated that well in CI for making bread since they are not powerful enough -- some reviews I read seemed to mix-up the KA 5qt review with the KA 600 mixer, but CI rated the KA 600 as doing fine for bread.

7) Anther factor I considered was the higher rated wattage of the Cuisinart motors. However I read a previous year Cooks Illustrated review that discussed how unreliable the wattage ratings for mixers are since the manufacturers use different methods for rating their mixer motors, and some mfrs intentionally use ways that make their mixers look more powerful even though they actually aren't.

8) Great attachments for the KA included an ice cream maker that is highly rated by reviewers. My KA 600 came with a rebate for a free one of these ice cream makers, so that settled it for me (even though I think I would have gone with the KA anyways).

Bottom Line: The simple utilitarian design of the KA eventually swayed me its way. The complicated mechanism, many parts, and unproven reliability of the Cuisinart scared me away. BUT, if you love the Cuisinart features and/or need a lower profile design, I'm sure its a great mixer. However, if you insist on overloading either one of them with too much dough, you are going to have troubles!!
