First off, i've owned this mixer for seven years, and I've used it at least once a week from batter to dough.
After seven years, it is now showing it's first signs of fatigue. When making bread and using the dough hook, it struggles to get through the dough, and now is starting to emit a slight burning (electrical ?) smell. When mixing at high speeds using the paddle the mixer makes this high frequency screeching noise.
Things that i never got use to or don't like is that it is difficult to scrape the bowl because the mixer attachment is always in the way, unlike my very old Sunbeam (40 plus years old that i inherited from my grandmother, still works BTW) would lift up for easy scraping. Also, the whisk or paddle attachments don't get to the bottom of the bowl. thus needing to scrape more often. And don't plan on using this mixer if you have sleeping guests, babies, or try to have a conversation. It is VERY LOUD!
would I buy it again, probably not. I like the power, not having to mix bread dough by hand is great, but a powerful stand mixer that is not so loud, and easier to scrape while mixing would be better.
If you are looking for power, this has it, but it comes with all the noise and jitteriness. Oh yes, if mixing dough at high speeds, it can and will leap off your counter. So you do need to stand by it and hold it down. Still easier then kneading by hand for eight minutes. Though a pro. baker friend of mine would use no other mixer, even if he needs to wrestle it to keep it still.

This mixer is absolutely fantastic! The lift mixer is so much better than the stand style mixers in that the stand mixers get worn out and the bowl tends to jump around. I used to work with a stand style mixer and I would have to put all of my weight on the bowl while I was mixing stuff to keep the bowl from flying out into the kitchen! The motor is super powerful and I am very pleased with it. Since I started making everything we eat from scratch it is nice to have this great mixer to save me the labor of hand mixing stiff doughs and such. I noticed other people had problems with it. One person wrote that the bowl didn't stay in place at all, it needs to be snapped in, if you look at the back on the mixer you'll see a strip of metal where the bowl slides into, on the bowl where it meets the mixer is a metal nub, that's where it is supposed to snap in. They also said that they put the attachments in the dishwasher and they changed color. The instructions say to hand wash them ONLY!!!
It was an absolute pleasure just opening the box up that it came in. It came just as the seller described, brand new and shiny red. I look forward to years of use and everyday I admire it in my kitchen!

We ordered this product yesterday - a brand new one - and today, it arrived. I was very surprised with the fact that it came so soon, less than 24 hours after it had been ordered. While I was happy at first, I was soon shocked with the purchase.
When I opened the box and took the mixer out, the first thing I noticed was a THICK LAYER OF GRIME covering the entire surface, and the additional two attachments. The whole mixer was simply filthy and disgusting to touch. On top of that, the back area of the mixer was smeared with something resembling butter, and was oily and sticky. AND the whole mixer, from bottom to top, was covered with scratches - they were very visible and looked as if the mixer was scratched up with utensils.
Im not pleased at all with the purchase, and am going to return it tomorrow morning. We ordered a brand-new mixer, not a used one, so why did it come in looking as if it had fallen off a cliff into a tub of butter and knives? Please reconsider buying this product if youre looking to buy it and save yourself the trouble of sending it back.

I love this mixer! I have had no problems as reported by the previous reviewer. It's power and performance are matched by no other and are of great kitchenaid quality.
