One of the best features of a stand mixer is that you can add other ingredients while the mixing action is occuring. I bought my Kitchen Aid without the shield. The mixer works fast and quickly but I could not use it at high speeds because it would throw my mixing ingredients out of the bowl. The splash guard really makes a difference.
